The Somers Point Business Association was founded in 1983 with the following objectives: To provide a collective voice representing the Somers Point business community to local, state and federal governments, supporting candidates whose philosophies are consistent with the free enterprise system and responsible business growth. To develop programs to inform the public of the advantages of transacting business with Somers Point business establishments. To provide a facility for an exchange of information that will expose the business owner or manager to new ideas and methods to increase their business and improve efficiency.  In celebrating our 23rd year, we are partnering with the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce to add more value to your membership. In addition to our monthly meetings, we are hosting joint mixers at local restaurants three times a year, as well as our Holiday Comedy Auction to benefit Shore Memorial Hospital. Our newsletters are generated monthly to keep you informed between meetings. We appreciate our active members and welcome all newcomers. 2010 SPBA Officers Lou DeScioli - President Lou DeScioli has been married to Monica for 36 years and has 5 children, 1 daughter-in-law and 1 grandchild. He is a partner in the Custard Hut, a family owned business with locations in Somers Point & Upper Twp which has been in business since 1977. Lou is also a Real Estate Broker, licensed with Prudential Fox & Roach Realtors. He has been selling real estate for 32 years. His other business experiences include: tavern owner, 3 years, and motel owner, 18 years. Lou serves on boards of the following organizations: Somers Point Business Association, Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point Rotary, Somers Point Education Foundation, Somers Point Economic Development Commission, and the Community Partnership for Egg Harbor Township Schools. His hobbies are eating, fishing, and enjoying an occasional cigar. Walter R. Gregory - Vice President Walter Gregory is co-owner of Gregory’s Restaurant & Bar and has served in that capacity for 28 years. He was recently married to the enchanting Lois Hirschman and is the father of 3 teenage daughters. He is currently serving on the Board of Trustees for the Somers Point Historical Society and is a member and past officer of Egg Harbor Twp. B.P.O.Elks. Walter has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering, Oceanographic Systems, from the University of Miami, Florida. He practiced that trade for the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Department of the Navy, for 6 years until returning to Somers Point to take over the family business. Lois Hirschman Gregory - Secretary Lois Hirschman Gregory lives in Somers Point and is married to Walt Gregory, co-owner of Gregory's Bar & Restaurant. Lois has a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology and was a teacher in Philadelphia until her retirement from that career. After moving to Somers Point Lois began assisting her husband with many business tasks. Although currently unemployed, she also began a second career as part-time as a medical receptionist. Prior to moving to Somers Point she was an active volunteer and served as secretary and chairman for a number of other organizations. Jane M. Alvarez - Treasurer Branch Manager, Sun National Bank, Somers Point Jane Alvarez is a resident of Absecon with her husband of 16 years, Paul. Jane has been in banking for 14 years, 10 of those years with Sun National Bank working her way up the ladder from Teller to Branch Manager. She is also a member of Somers Point Rotary. Jane enjoys music, shoes, good food, good friends and her 2 dogs. |
